Get excited, The L Word IS OFFICIALLY COMING BACK!!!!!
At the Television Critics Association's winter press tour on Thursday, Showtime announced that it has picked up an eight episode run of the beloved lesbian drama. The show will air by the end of the year.
Stars Jennifer Beals (Bette), Katherine Moennig (Shane) and Leisha Hailey (Alice) are reprising their original roles and executive producing alongside show creator Ilene Chaiken. Playwright and screenwriter Marja-Lewis Ryan, best known for writing and starring in LGBT film The Four-Faced Liar, is also bringing “a new generation of self-possessed LGBTQIA characters experiencing love, heartbreak, sex, setbacks and success in L.A" to the screen.
“Marja has brought her unique and contemporary vision to The L Word and blended it beautifully into the fabric of Ilene’s groundbreaking series,” Showtime president Gary Levine said.
“This revered show was both entertaining and impactful when it originally ran on Showtime, and we are confident that our new version will do that and more in 2019.”
The original series ran for six seasons from 2004. There is reportedly a chance that original series cast such as Sarah Shahi (Carmen), Pam Grier (Kit) and Laurel Holloman (Tina) may make an appearance in the revival.
