In her first ever appearance at the MTV VMA’s, Hayley Kiyoko has won 2018 Push Artist Of The Year, beating SZA, Khalid, Lil Xan and others to the award.
“I’m so happy! You make me cry! I haven’t even met the famous people yet and my makeup’s going to be messed up. Oh my gosh, there’s Blake Lively.” the up and coming, openly lesbian singer/songwriter said on the red carpet on Monday after learning of her win.
“This validates any queer woman of color that you can follow your dream. And I love my fans! My fans gave this to us! We did it! 20GayTeen! 2018!” an ecstatic Kiyoko said.

Kiyoko was also a finalist in the Best New Artist category, which was won by Cardi B and performed her hit “Curious” on the main stage during the show.
Before the awards, Kiyoko told Billboard, "I’m really excited to be there and I’m excited to be nominated. It makes me feel like I’m finally invited to the popular table. I’m ready to sit down and hang out.”
The award is the latest highlight for Kiyoko this year. Finally signed to a record label, she released a full-length album, Expectations, in late March and is headlining her first tour. She was introduced to a mainstream audience in July, when Taylor Swift brought her onstage at Gillette Stadium in Massachusetts to duet on Kiyoko’s hit “Curious."
“This is someone who I think is one of the most exciting new artists out here. And she’s here to play for you tonight,” Swift told the crowd.
Kiyoko's tour heads to England and Europe in October.
