Ocean's 8 Star Sarah Paulson On Her Relationship With Holland Taylor

43 year old actress Sarah Paulson has been opening up about her relationship with girlfriend Holland Taylor, 75 as she promotes the upcoming all-female blockbuster film Ocean’s 8, about a jewellery heist at the Met Gala in New York. The film stars Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Mindy Kaling and Rhianna and comes out on June 7.

Paulson and Holland’s 32 year age gap caused controversy when the couple started dating in 2015.

“If anyone wants to spend any time thinking I’m strange for loving the most spectacular person on the planet, then that’s their problem. I’m doing just fine,” she told Modern Luxury magazine this month.

Before dating Taylor, Paulson was with actress Cherry Jones for five years. The couple had a 19 year age difference.

“My life choices are, um, unconventional. I’m with a much older person and people find that totally fascinating and odd, and, to me, it’s the least interesting thing about me,” she told The Edit in December.

“But I do feel a bit unconventional. I am a woman of a certain age who chose not to have children, and who has made my career my priority. I am the captain of my own ship, and I’ve never looked to anyone else to validate that or tell me it’s okay.”

Paulson and Taylor met at a dinner party approximately 10 years ago. Paulson was with Cherry Jones at the time but said that Taylor was “probably the most exquisitely beautiful woman I’d ever seen.”

A few years later they met again, followed each other on Twitter, flirted online and then direct messaged each other and arranged a dinner date.

Paulson told The Edit that she was warned to keep the relationship quiet or risk losing her career.

“Early on, when people found out I was with Holland, some said: ‘I think you have to be careful, I’m afraid it’s going to affect your career negatively’. I was like, what? It never occurred to me at all.”

Onstage at the Emmy’s in 2016, when she won an award for her role in The People vs OJ Simpson, Paulson had to decide whether to say “I love you” to Holland in her speech.

“It occurred to me, should I not do that? And then I thought, why would I not? The fact I’m having this thought is wrong. But I had a moment of societal concern; wondering if, maybe, people who didn’t know that about me would be like, wait, what?”

“But then, you know, I did it anyway.”

Since then, Paulson's career has continued to blossom and she's felt a sense of responsibility as a high profile member of the LGBT community. Paulson uses her platform to speak out against President Trump’s agenda and shares her relationship on social media.

“I do not want to be defined by who I share my bed, my home, my soul with,” she told Town And Country magazine in January.

“My choices in life have been unconventional, and that’s my business. But I do want to live responsibly and truthfully without hiding. It’s complicated, because there is a lot of hate in this world, and a lot of good can come from quote-unquote normalizing something for people who don’t see it as normal.”

“Our relationship represents a certain amount of hope and risk. Maybe there’s something brave in it. Maybe it encourages others to make brave choices.”

“What else can I say? We love each other.”
