Vagina pants anyone? It’s #20GayTeen - the year that celebrates queer culture - so we probably should have expected a song and accompanying music video devoted entirely to vaginas and lesbian sex. And here it is: Janelle Monáe’s queer, feminist vagina anthem PYNK, off her upcoming album Dirty Computer.
The song is a collaboration with Canadian musician, songwriter, record producer and visual artist Grimes, and the music video features actress Tessa Thompson (Janelle’s rumoured partner), who played bisexual superhero Valkyrie in Thor: Ragnarok, bursting enthusiastically out from a pair of vagina pants.
The description for the video states that “Pynk is a brash celebration of creation. self love. sexuality. and pussy power! PYNK is the color that unites us all, for pink is the color found in the deepest and darkest nooks and crannies of humans everywhere...”
Vagina pants aren’t the only fabulous fashion statement in the music video directed by Emma Westenberg. The women wear all kinds of pink ensembles, and even Vogue Magazine has written an article celebrating vagina pants and the video's feminist fashion statements.
And in case you think the highlight of this video is the fashion, here's a sample of the lyrics Monáe purrs: “Pink like the tongue that goes down – maybe/Pink like the lips around your, maybe / Pink like the skin that’s under, baby. Pink where it’s deepest inside, crazy / Pink beyond forest and thighs.”
“Pink like your fingers in my… maybe.”
Yep, it’s #20GayTeen alright.
