#PressForProgress On International Women's Day March 8

Thursday March 8 is International Women’s Day, an annual, UN-recognized celebration of the achievements of women and a time to take action to progress gender equality.

This year the theme is #PressForProgress. With the #MeToo and #TimesUp movements creating world-wide momentum for women’s rights, now is the time to join in and #PressForProgress on gender parity.

The World Economic Forum's 2017 Global Gender Gap Report finds that we won’t actually achieve gender parity for 200 years and each year, women work for free for 51 days due to the gender pay gap.

So how will you #PressForProgress in 2018? Jump on the International Women’s Day website, where there are tools and resources for you to use, including selfie cards to post on your social channels. You can take action now by pledging the ways you will fight for equality this year. Choose an area to concentrate on to press for progress for gender parity in your own sphere of influence. The areas are:

  • Maintaining a gender parity mindset

  • Challenging stereotypes and biases

  • Forging positive visibility of women

  • Influencing others’ beliefs and actions

  • Celebrating women’s achievements

Did you know that women and children are 14 times more likely to die or be injured in the wake of a natural disaster? Check out the work the UN is doing to empower rural women and accelerate the closing of the gender pay gap.

This International Women’s Day, the United Nations is asking you to join in transforming the current momentum in global activism into action, “to empower women in all settings, rural and urban, and to celebrate the activists who are working relentlessly to claim women’s rights and realize their full potential.” Show your support using the hashtags #TimeisNow #IWD2018

This year the Women’s March is focussing on making history at the polls in the United States. They are urging people to wear red, to commit to voting in 2018 and to post a photo on social media wearing red and hash tagging #WomenPowerToThePolls along with the reason you choose to vote.
