Adelaide Crows Co-Captain Erin Phillips has retired from professional basketball and will play for the Crows in the AFLW 2018 season.

After a seventeen year absence from the game, Phillips was a stand-out player in the women's league’s inaugural season. She was crowned AFLW best and fairest, Crow’s Club Champion, Players Association’s Players Most Valuable Player and won All Australian Selection and Goal Of The Year. She was also best on ground in the grand final against Brisbane.

As a star basketball player, Phillips has represented Australia twice at the Olympics, winning a silver medal with the Opals at the Beijing Olympics. She has also won two American WNBA basketball premierships.

Earlier this month she announced her retirement from professional basketball after nine years playing in the WNBA. She will stay on with her current team, the Dallas Wings, as Director Of Player And Franchise Development.

Phillips is excited to bring her wife Tracy Gahan and twins Blake and Brooklyn back to Australia in November to begin pre-season training.

“Last season was truly a dream come true, so to be able to stay at Adelaide is fantastic. I couldn’t imagine playing with any other team,” Phillips said.

“Having grown up in a sporting family watching dad play football it’s definitely been something I wanted to do, so I was extremely grateful to have that opportunity and I can’t wait to pull the boots on again.”

Phillips will also take on the role of High Performance Coach for the AFL next season.
