It's True! The L Word Is Officially In Development!!!

After months of rumours, it's finally been confirmed that Showtime is developing a sequel to its ground breaking lesbian drama, 'The L Word’.

The original series, which followed the lives and romantic dramas of a group of West Hollywood lesbians and their friends and families, launched in 2004 and ran for six years.

The new version will be developed by 'The L Word' creator Ilene Chaiken and original stars Jennifer Beals (Bette), Kate Moennig (Shane) and Leisha Hailey (Alice) are also coming on as executive producers. The producers are reportedly looking for writers with connections to the LGBTQ community to join the team.

The series will revolve around a fresh group of characters, with Beals, Moenig and Hailey appearing to help tie the new and old shows together.

The first 'The L Word' spin off, The Farm, staring Hailey’s character, was developed but not picked up by the network in 2010.

GLAAD president and CEO, Sarah Kate Ellis applauded the return of the series, saying “The past few years have seen lesbian and queer women characters in television killed off in shockingly high numbers. It is refreshing and exciting to see GLAAD Media Award-winning The L Word returning to television where it can tell nuanced, entertaining, and beautiful stories of an largely underrepresented community.”

Moennig and Hailey both tweeted their confirmation that the new series is officially in development.
